What is infusion therapy?

In infusion therapy, a care provider will inject specific medical treatments directly into a patient’s bloodstream through an intravenous (IV) catheter. This medication is absorbed immediately by the bloodstream – much quicker than oral medication. Infusion therapy is also more precise because our specially-trained injector controls the exact dose given.

High-volume IV therapies we provide

  • Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG): Aims to boost a person’s immune system by giving antibodies from multiple donors into that person’s bloodstream. It’s used to help people with immune system deficiencies, autoimmune disorders and neurological conditions.
  • Iron infusions: Administers iron directly into the bloodstream. It’s used to help people with iron deficiency anemia who have low iron levels due to trouble absorbing blood or chronic blood loss.
  • IV hydration: Fluids, electrolytes and nutrients are administered into the bloodstream, so we can help someone quickly rehydrate.
  • IV nutritional therapy (parenteral nutrition): A feeding technique where nutrients and vitamins are administered into the bloodstream, providing nutritional benefits for people who have difficulty consuming food.

We also provide infusion therapy for a number of medications, such as chemotherapy drugs and biologics for chronic disease such as Crohn’s disease.
