Transformational cancer research trials, close to home
With people living longer and age being a risk factor for cancer, researchers are working hard to find breakthrough treatments to stop cancer.
Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center, is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI) recognized cancer center in Central and South Texas. We are among a select number of centers doing research to address our community's most critical cancer concerns.
Our research continues to make significant contributions to the field of cancer — contributing to worldwide benefits to future patients and care teams.
We offer clinical trials for many types and all stages of cancer: prevention, treatment and survivorship.
Our cancer research
Through highly targeted research programs, and clinical trials, our physicians and scientists are working to reduce the impact of cancer in South Texas — and around the world. This includes collaborating and sharing our expert knowledge with other cancer researchers.
Highlights of these efforts include:
- Discovering more about how cancer begins, grows and spreads
- Developing new drugs and new uses for existing drugs
- Increasing awareness about cancer screening rates
- Promoting outreach efforts to better understand cancer’s effects in our community
- Giving the rest of the nation a template for treating Hispanic people with cancer
- Training the next generation of scientific leaders
