What to bring
Our pre-admission team will provide you with instructions. They will explain the admission process and answer your questions.
We often suggest that patients and families bring:
Any medical records that you have not given us already
A form of identification, such as a driver’s license or passport
Pajamas or comfortable clothing
Your pillow or items that help you sleep
Shoes or slippers
Toiletries, such as a toothbrush and toothpaste
For their safety and your peace of mind, we recommend not bringing expensive items or belongings that mean a lot to you - including jewelry and electronics.
Admission and patient registration
When you arrive at our hospital, you’ll find signs that guide you to our free parking areas and main entrance. Our information desk staff in the lobby are ready to answer any questions.
First, you’ll go to admissions for patient registration. After check-in, you will proceed to your hospital room, where your care team will greet you.

Our hospital rooms are designed with your comfort, safety and healing in mind. All of our patient rooms are spacious and private, with pull-out sleep sofas, allowing your loved ones to stay overnight. Our rooms have advanced monitoring and technology to ensure your comfort and safety.

Our hospital team provides seamless care through our direct connection with your UT Health San Antonio care providers. They are a part of your hospital care team, which could also include hospitalists, nurses, anesthesiologists, radiologists, dietitians, pharmacists, rehabilitation specialists and other health professionals.
MyChart Bedside
With MyChart Bedside, you can connect with the resources you need while you’re in the hospital. You have access to MyChart Bedside on a hospital tablet. It helps you communicate with your care team, see health information related to your hospital stay and more. The best part is that it works directly with the MyChart patient portal, so you have the records you'll need after you’re discharged.

Hospital discharge and what’s next
Your length of stay in the hospital depends on your procedure and care plan. But your care doesn’t end just because you leave the hospital. Our care management team works with you to create and follow a hospital discharge plan. Because the hospital seamlessly connects with your specialists, oncologists and providers, all your care fits together and helps you heal faster.
Here’s how it works:
- Your dedicated case manager meets with you within 48 hours of your arrival at the hospital. Case managers are registered nurses and social workers who help manage your discharge from the hospital. They also ensure your health care team streamlines all communication.
- During the meeting, your case manager will assess you and your family’s needs.
- You, your case manager and your family will create your discharge plan. The plan may include:
- Referrals to providers you need to see after you leave the hospital
- Scheduled follow-up visits
- Services such as home health care, skilled nursing rehabilitation, long-term care placement or medical equipment
- Education about care
- Information about local resources and support groups
